There are two classes in Year 1. Children in Y1 have well equipped classrooms and outdoor play areas. When they first come into Y1 children will still be following the early years curriculum, they then start working on the National Curriculum with its separate subjects which are:

• English
• Maths
• Science
• ICT
• History
• Geography
• PE
• RE
• Music
• Art
• D&T
• Personal Social Health Education.

During Y1 children who need extra help with reading will be considered for one of our special groups. We have a well qualified Reading Recovery teacher and a team of Teaching Assistants. Children are assessed regularly in Reading, Writing and Maths to ensure they are making good progress. In Y1 your child will be given homework. This will include learning spellings, doing regular reading and practising maths.
